Used Sailboats For Sale
Hi I'm Chuck Burns. I love to find beautiful old used sailboats for sale.
I became interested in used sailboats for sale when I was in the U.S. Navy stationed in the Canal Zone. I spent my spare time at the Coco Solo Yacht Club where I would eat an occasional lunch or dinner. The yacht club restaurant was right on the water so you could see the boats coming and going. After dinner there was always the walk around to see all the boats tied up at the docks and look at the used sailboats for sail. There were often sailing visitors from all over the world. The boats were beautiful and the people were interesting with lots of sea tales to tell. Sometimes there were even used sailboats for sale by people who made it to the Panama canal and then changed their minds about sailing further. I remember the Black Dolphin, the Katherine II, and I remember Dougal Robertson who wrote the book "Survive the Savage Sea". His sailboat was holed by a whale and sank in the Pacific Ocean. His book was about his and his family's survival from the incident.
My first of many used sailboats for sale was an old wooden sloop. She was about 26 feet in length and was tied up at a finger pier at the Coco Solo Yacht Club. She was half full of water and had been there for years. The little sailboat was in need of repair but it had one set of outstanding sails. It was among the used sailboats for sail that were available from time to time at the yacht club. I wouldn't know how special the mainsail was until I refinished the boat, launched her, and learned to sail in her. I read books about sailing, and sailboat building. I built a cradle and hauled the boat out of the water onto the seaplane ramps at the abandoned Coco Solo sea plane base where I lived. It took about three months of hard labor to get the little boat seaworthy. But after she was launched, I learned to sail in her, and that little boat would eventually win first place at the Presidents Cup Race in Coco Solo, Panama, Canal Zone. I think that was January 28, 1973. I still have the engraved silver ice bucket first place trophy. Not bad for my first of several used sailboats for sale that was almost sunk when I bought her.
The second of my used sailboats for sale was a thing of beauty. I was stationed in Pensacola, Florida at the time. I was looking at used sailboats for sail and located this one in Pewaukee, Wisconsin. She had such sleek lines and was built for one purpose and that was to beat, sail into the wind. She was an old 5.5 meter Olympic racer sail number US46. She was all mahogany with a forward and aft cockpit. She displaced 4500 pounds with 2800 pounds of that as lead in the fin keel. She was 6.5 feet at the beam, 32 feet overall length. Her lines were absolutely breathtaking and that boat was made to beat. She could sail closer to the wind and maintain speed as she tacked back and forth than just about any other sailboat.
I know you share my enthusiasm for beautiful used sailboats for sale, especially wooden sailboats, and I hope you find just the beauty you are looking for. There are so many unbelievable bargains to be had from the hundreds of used sailboats for sale that you are sure to find the one you can't live without.
